Impact mechanics is one of the most prominent scientific branches in mechanical engineering and so critical from both industrial and practical points of view. Application of impact mechanics in today's design and manufacture of engineering parts is numerous and research, training and updating knowledge of engineers in this area is essential. An advanced and enhanced laboratory is therefore required to achieve the goals.Tarbiat Modares University (TMU) as a leading national university in Iran with close to 30 years of experience in impact mechanics research, has very advanced and sophisticated impact mechanics laboratory facilities in comparison with other country's universities. The impact laboratory at TMU has the necessary equipment such as Gas Gun, Drop Hammer, Hopkinson pressure bar etc, which make it possible to carry out all impact tests on different materials such as Metals, polymers, ceramics, and composites.One of the important activities in performing impact tests is the precise measurement and recording of the experimental results, and we are pleased to inform that TMU impact laboratory has the necessary, adequate and advanced high rate recording instruments to make these tests as accurate as possible. Several industrial projects, 5 postdoctoral, 24 Ph.D. thesis and 137 MSc dissertations have been completed so far in TMU impact laboratory. Some of the selected project titles may be seen in the relevant section. Professor Gholamhossein Liaghat is the founder and director of Tarbiat Modares University's impact laboratory. The well-trained engineers and technicians in this laboratory are ready and willing to collaborate with other institutions and organizations to conduct any type of high speed and high strain rate impact tests according to the required standards and per client’s specifications.
